Media Evaluation 7

What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from creating the school magazine to creating your music magazine?

The main thing i have learnt is how to use the design technologies such as photoshop and indesign. I was able to use the programmes better and was able to produce higher quality work due to the practice i was gaining from the school magazine to the music magazine.
Also i learnt how to produce a more clear and fluent magazine that isnt over crowded or that has too much information on it at once. This allowed me to create a higher standard piece of work for my music magazine then that of my school magazine.

Media Evaluation 1

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenege forms and conventions of real media products.

My magazine has a lot of typical codes and conventions that a magazine has such as: date, edition number, barcode, a masthead, main coverline, main image and sub coverlines.
The title of my magazine follows typical conventions of a magazine as it is in larger text then the rest of the front cover to make it stand out so the audience knows what magazine it is but also the placement of the main title at the top of the page is a code of magazine media.
The main image is placed in the centre of my front cover like most magzine images are so i am following the traditional conventions of a magazine.
The use of the barcode in the bottom right corner means that it doesnt take a lot of space up as it is one of the less important parts of the magazine.
The date and issue number on my magazine are at the top left hand corner in a smaller font compared to the rest of the magazines front cover font due to it being less important and not what someone looking to buy the magazine would look at straight away.

Media Evaluation 3

What kind of media institutuion might distribute your music magazine and why?

I think that the publisher who would most suit my magazine and would publish it more than other publishers is Townsquare Media who currently publish another rap magazine in the form of XXL which is one of only a handfull of rap magazines on the market. The reason i would ask Twonsquare Media to publsih my magazine would be the fact that they would know which is the best audience to aim at as they already have a rap magazine.

Photographs for my magazine

These are some of the photos i used for my magazine. The first photo i used on my front ceover is just of the main artist, i used this because of how the picture depicts how some rap artists act and look. The second photo i used on my contents page was of the main artists and a girl, now this photo was selected because of the reason that most rap artists normally have a girl in pictures or videos. So this photo also relates to what my magazines genre is. The third photo i picked was just of the artist again but shows him in a light that isnt normally associated with rap artists but i choose it as it shows the artist in a good light.

Some photos I didn't use were ones that maybe didn't portray the rap artist look that the artist was going for or just weren't good enough quality.

Audience research

The average age I collected from my magazine was 16 so I aimed my magazine at 16-21 year olds by using language and context that younger people won’t use or understand but older people would.

The second question I asked was what gender are you and the responses I got were 50/50 half boys, half girls so I tried to aim my magazine at both sexes but geared towards boys a bit.

The third question I asked was what music do you listen to and 50% of the responses said RnB so I placed some things in the magazine that would attract those who listen to RnB music towards my magazine.

I then asked if people read magazines and 33% of the responses said yes where as a third said no and the other third of people said sometimes so on this basis I tried to make my magazine have stuff in that suited the third who said yes like what they would want in a magazine.

33% of the responses said they read music magazines so I tried to get those who said yes involved in my magazine. The people who said they read music magazines I asked what type of magazine they read to see if they would buy my magazine.

The next question was how much would you pay for a magazine and 66% of the responses said they would preferably pay £2.99/£3 so that altered my mind in to making the price of my magazine £2.99 to try and satisfy potential buyers.

66% of the responses on the last question what would you like in a music magazine said interviews so I specifically placed an interview in my magazine with another interview being shown on another page as well as having album reviews.
